Cystectomy
Cystectomy is a surgical procedure for the removal of urinary bladder. It is commonly performed to treat bladder cancer. Cystectomy is a complex procedure and surgeons may use different techniques to perform it. The dismembered type of pyeloplasty, called an Anderson-Hynes pyeloplasty is the most common type of pyeloplasty. A pyeloplasty can either be done by the robotic, open, or laparoscopic route.
Perineal prostatectomy
Perineal prostatectomy is an effective and tolerable treatment for the prostate cancer. It has certain advantages over other treatment options like shorter hospital stay, lower cost and speedy recovery because of which, it is still the most sorted type of treatment for the prostate cancer even in the era of robotic assisted surgery.
Perineal prostatectomy is performed by making a small incision between the scrotum and the rectum. The instruments necessary for dissecting the prostate gland and the seminal vesicles are inserted into the incision. A high-powered telescopic lens with a camera is also placed at the site for a better visualization of the surgical site. After the separation of the prostate and the seminal vesicles from the bladder, rectum and urethra, it is removed and sent for the laboratory for pathological observation. The surgery takes approximately 4 hours for completion.
